Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars universe continues to look like a good move both for the Mouse and Star Wars fans. Today, the studio announced that the next spin-off movie to take place within the Star Wars universe will fill in some of Han Solo's backstory. What makes the news exciting is that Lawrence Kasdan and his son have written the screenplay, and Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will direct.
Kasdan, as most Star Wars aficionados will know, is widely believed to be one of the reasons that The Empire Strikes Back was so good. And Miller and Lord are the duo responsible for a string of hit films that were all better than they had any right to be: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, both 21 and 22 Jump Street, and The Lego Movie. In fact, the duo even acknowledge that idea in the announcement, telling starwars.com, "This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with."
