Microsoft's E3 Xbox press conference started out as everyone had anticipated: with a lengthy gameplay demo of the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians. Nathan Fillion and Keith David provided voices for the demo, which raised questions on the whereabouts of series star Master Chief—has he gone AWOL? The gameplay we saw gave off a very Destiny vibe—with 24-player multiplayer and maps “four times” as large as previous Halo maps, it does seem like Microsoft has Bungie in its sights.
Some big news came up next, with Microsoft announcing backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. It also showed off a fancy Xbox Elite controller, with enough customizable knobs and buttons to satisfy even the tweakiest of tweakers. We got some great pre-show access to both of these announcements, and both of Sam Machkovech’s write ups are here for your reading enjoyment.
Then it was back to games: as mentioned in our Bethesda write-up yesterday, Fallout 4 will be coming to Xbox One. We didn’t see any new gameplay that wasn’t shown in Bethesda’s press conference, but Microsoft did announce one detail that should make console Fallout players very happy: Fallout 4 game mods created on the PC can be used on the Xbox One version of the game, at no cost. (There was obviously no word about whether this functionality will also be available on the PS4—but we might hear about that at Sony’s press conference this evening.)
