AT&T reportedly wins FCC chairman’s support for DirecTV merger

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler has asked fellow commissioners to approve AT&T's $48.5 billion acquisition of DirecTV, news outlets including Reuters and The Wall Street Journal reported today, citing anonymous sources.

"Wheeler on Tuesday circulated an order [to the other four commissioners] to approve AT&T Inc's bid to buy DirecTV for $48.5 billion, according to people familiar with the matter," Reuters wrote. The commission has not made any official announcement or scheduled a vote.

Wheeler's office declined comment when we asked if the reports are accurate, and what conditions Wheeler wants to impose on the deal.
