Timex is embracing old-school style with its next smartwatch. At the Qualcomm 3G/LTE Summit in Hong Kong, the company teased the Metropolitan+, its first analog smartwatch that will compete with the slew of new fashion-forward smart timepieces recently announced.
Along with the singular photo of the smartwatch, Timex declared it is "re-entering" the connected wearables category with this fitness-focused watch. The company is no stranger to activity tracking devices: back in February, it released the Timex Ironman One GPS+ watch, a squarish digital watch that aimed to be a one-stop shop for runners. Running on AT&T's data plan and with 4G of storage, the One GPS+ has a built-in music player, tracks speed, distance and pace in real-time, and is water-resistant up to 50 meters.
But while the One GPS+ was built for efficiency, the Metropolitan+ appears to be built for style. It has the design of one of the company's traditional chronograph watches, featuring two crowns on its right side and two dials on the watchface.
