Remember Google Listen? The Google-made podcast app took your audio RSS feeds from Google Reader and played them on an Android phone, but the service was killed in August 2012. Today, Google is finally jumping back into the podcast game with "Google Play Music Podcasts."
For now, the announcement is light on details. Google's blog post says it will "start offering podcasts on Google Play Music," so presumably there won't be a separate app (though YouTube has tons of separate "vertical" apps now). The company is launching a portal for US-based podcast creators immediately so they can pre-populate the Play Store with shows that will be ready for launch.
Google says that besides the usual searching and browsing for podcasts, the new service will "connect new listeners with podcasts based on what they’re doing, how they’re feeling, or what they’re interested in."
