Kojima Productions Los Angeles, the studio responsible for the so-so Metal Gear Online portion of Metal Gear Solid V, has been closed.
"Konami has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralised unit," the company said in a statement to Polygon. "This facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online."
Konami opened the LA studio in 2013 to help with the development of MGSV, and specifically with its multiplayer component, Metal Gear Online. At its peak, the studio reportedly employed between 50 and 60 people. Kojima Productions Los Angeles was renamed to Konami Los Angeles Studio around the same time Kojima Productions and Hideo Kojima's names were stripped from the Metal Gear Solid websites and box art.
